While at Kenseido your knowledge of the Japanese culture and language will increase over time, making your learning experience that much richer and rewarding.

The United States Kenseido headquarters is located in San Antonio , Texas .

Kenseido's roots and origins are ancient, stemming from the traditions and techniques brought to Japan over a thousand year period by the Shaolin (Shorinji in Japanese), the martial skills, customs, and culture of contemporary and Samurai era Japan (Edo-Jidai) and the innovations of Akizuki Masayuki that earned Kenseido official recognition in Japan as an authentic Sogo (comprehensive) Budo in 1973.

Kenseido was established in the United States in 1986 by Shihan Winslow Swart, his wife Pamela, and Shihan Masami Nakahashi. Nakahashi and the Swart’s ran the U.S. Dojo of Kenseido until 1990, when Nakahashi sensei returned to Japan and left the mission over to the Swart team. Since then, Shihan Swart has made numerous trips to Japan to further his studies with the Dosyu, Grand Master Akizuki Takayoshi, Nanjo sensei, (of blessed memory), Hasegawa sensei, and many others. The U.S Kenseido Dojo has hosted several Japanese Kenseido Shihan over the years, also enriching our teaching staff and students training experience.

The U.S Dojo is now populated with staff of four Red Belt Shihan Master instructors,  one sixth-degree, one fifth-degree, and two fourth-degree shihan’s. There are also over a dozen active Black Belts training in the dojo, and dozens of brown belts working towards their black belts.

Kenseido is officially celebrating its 20+ years in the U.S. , come by and celebrate with us by joining our very special dojo.
